As shark-infested storms grow stronger and more complex, the world braces for the inevitable - a global sharknado. This year, the mission gets personal for chainsaw-wielding leader Fin Shepard and his bionic wife, April, when their young son gets trapped in a sharknado and is transported all over the world. After a fearfully brief period of peace, things are getting really serious, as a fact-finding expedition led by Sharknado Sister Nova about the origins of the devastating phenomenon, accidentally triggers a wave of ferocious and bigger-than-ever Sharknados, with the prehistoric Stonehenge as the epicentre. As a result, while the annihilating Sharknado batters down the British capital, Fin's young son, Gil, gets sucked into the heart of a brutal cyclone, with minimal chances of survival. Inevitably, Fin Shepard, an international hero and the only man in the world qualified for the job, along with his intrepid bionic spouse April must track down the Sharknado that rapidly transforms into the unimaginable: a global abnormality that wreaks havoc across its way. Now, Fin and April are against the world, because, this time, it is personal. No need to really review Sharknado 5. It's pretty much like all the other Sharknado movies, but on a world wide scale, much more, well, out there, and a bit darker, if you will. You can expect a ton of B through D list celebrity cameos, and just as much subtle to blatant references to other movies (you really got to be a movie buff to catch some of the more obscure references). Honestly, with the first Sharknado, you could actually buy into the story, but then the whole thing hopped on that one way trip on the silly track starting movie 2 (one of the characters rightly concluded the show had jumped the shark).<br/><br/>If you enjoyed the Toxic Avenger series, you'll like the Sharknado films. Intentionally dumb, but compelling enough to keep you watching. I guess it takes a special sort of skill to make these sorts of Troll 2-so- dumb-they're-good movies. I like this under-appreciated, and under- tapped genre. But I don't expect many directors to take it on.<br/><br/>SPOILERS ALERT- Now yes, I suppose there could be more to come with the Sharknado movies, but it would be a stretch, based on what happened in S5. I would have enjoyed a solid ending to the franchise. But if the money is there, I guess they'll keep pumping it…<br/><br/>6/10…fun, if not repetitive, if you like the other movies. Watchable only to a point if you did not. "Sharknado 5" continues in the direction of its predecessors, but this time they failed. Previous films have been based on unrealistic, but established quasi-scientific premises, and they stuck to them so that all the time you can be clear about what, how and why. This time, through most of the film I had no idea what was going on. Confusing, illogical and full of holes and with no quasi-scientific explanation that would give some sort of credibility to the story. Bunch of events that do not hold your attention, unconvincing story, poor CGI and unforgivably bad acting of several actors. Too stupid for a serious movie, and not nearly enough over-the-top to be a hilarious ride, like those brought to us by its prequels. But I can not completely bury it, because it does have some bright moments. The film is full of references, both verbal and visual, to pop culture and some cult films, and several times I sincerely laughed.<br/><br/>5/10<br/><br/>If you carefully follow the details, you will recognize references to "Lady and the Tramp", James Bond, "Star Trek", "Wonder Woman", "An American Werewolf in London", "Back to the Future", "Monty Python's Flying Circus", Indiana Jones, "Mission Impossible", "Mad Max" and others.
